Why You Should Enroll

By participating in this course, you will acquire a comprehensive understanding of the mechanics and principles underpinning manual therapy. Bid farewell to antiquated notions of ‘putting things back into place’ or & ‘stretching scar tissue.’ Embracing a contemporary perspective will not only enhance your acceptance of manual therapy but also reinforce its value.

In today’s healthcare landscape, manual therapy sometimes faces scepticism, perceived as a low-value intervention. Yet, the experiences of experts like James and Kieran resoundingly affirm that it is among the most potent assets in achieving immediate results and cultivating client adherence to your care.

We delve into the art of optimising your manual therapy skills, emphasizing the scientific foundations of mobilisation—yes, it’s grounded in real science. Armed with this understanding, you can make informed choices about the most suitable techniques for your patients.

Highly recommend this course I sent all my physios to it and they found it really helpful. It was great to learn manual techniques but to also learn treatment planning. James Schomburgk yep it’s a must for private practice and I’d have to say that if I was looking for an international physio and s omeone had done this course already it would give them an advantage

Enrolling myself in this course was one of the best decisions I made in my professional career. I learned a lot from this course and it also helped me land my first job, as the team, The Second Visit, is widely known to be the best in building the clinical excellence of Physio in different parts of the world. Personally, it helped me learn new skills and build my confidence to talk with potential employers and in less than a week after attending the course in Sydney I had a successful interview with my current employer. In two weeks time, I will be having my first day in private practice here in Australia. Can’t speak highly enough of James and The Second Visit team for creating the community!

I already secured a job even without attending the Manual to Great Therapy course but I didn't pass up the chance to attend it! It's an extremely helpful course whether you're a physio looking to upgrade your skills or a practice seeking to hone your physios. It helped me brush up on my manual therapy and I think it's a good start to knowing what to expect in terms of practising as a physio according to Australian standards. I learned techniques that are more efficient and are evidence-based plus, my understanding of manual therapy became more grounded since it was explained using "sound" reasoning. I highly appreciate the guidance for dosimetry as well as the "effectivity window" of manual therapy treatments. That certainly helps in treatment prescription. The two days weren't enough frankly and I'm already looking forward to attend more seminars from The Second Visit!

In my master's program, James and his team allowed us to experience working in private practice, which was invaluable to me when I started my own private practice in India. It helped us improve both our technical and soft skills, ensuring success. I am excited to participate in " The Manual to Great Therapy" in the next two weeks along with my team members.

It’s my pleasure to share my experience and thoughts about the hands-on skills workshops conducted in Sri Lanka in 2023 and 2024. These workshops, facilitated by James, have not only been a source of professional growth for me but also a stepping stone for many physiotherapists aspiring to work in Australia.

James is a highly skilled physiotherapist and educator, well-versed in the latest evidence-based practices such as Mulligan techniques, Maitland mobilizations, and Neurodynamics. He brings an unparalleled depth of knowledge to his sessions, ensuring participants not only understand the theory behind these techniques but also gain the confidence to apply them in clinical practice. His ability to simplify complex concepts and ensure individual attention sets him apart.

Each workshop was designed to be highly interactive and hands-on. James would first demonstrate a technique, explaining the rationale and biomechanics behind it, and then allow participants to practice on each other. The workshops had around 35-40 physiotherapists in attendance, but despite the large number, James made it a point to visit every practice station (we had six beds available) to provide real-time feedback and correct our techniques as needed. He answered every question with patience and ensured that everyone mastered the skills before moving on to the next topic.

The feedback from participants has been outstanding. Many found the workshops not just educational but also enjoyable, creating an environment of collaboration and mutual learning. The sessions were meticulously planned, with a perfect balance of theory, practical application, and informal discussions, making the two-day events both effective and engaging.

These workshops also emphasize the importance of staying current in physiotherapy, a field that continuously evolves with new research and methods. James’s focus on manual therapy, a skillset highly valued in Australia, ensures that participants meet the professional standards expected in international practice.

One of the most impactful aspects of these workshops is their contribution to career advancement. For participants who meet the interim certificate and English proficiency requirements for AHPRA, the workshops have proven to be a gateway to employment opportunities in Australia. James’s extensive network with physiotherapy practice owners across the country has enabled him to directly recommend participants who have demonstrated proficiency during the sessions. This has significantly enhanced their employability. To date, around 15 physiotherapists from Sri Lanka have successfully secured positions in Australia, thanks to James’s mentorship and recommendations.

The success and high demand for these workshops are evident in the fact that a third one is scheduled for July this year. It reflects the trust and value that James has built among physiotherapists in Sri Lanka. I firmly believe that these workshops are a valuable resource for anyone looking to enhance their skills, stay updated with evidence-based techniques, and explore career opportunities in Australia.

We had 5 of our physios do Manual to Great Therapy this year- an absolute bargain and paying me back over and over again every week. And just as importantly, loving their jobs even more as they get to enjoy better outcomes. They should learn it all at uni, but they don't - so they have to learn it from experts or they perish on the vine.
